Make up Removal PadsAndrea EyeQ's Eye Make-Up Remover Pads, Ultra Quick

Andrea Eye’s waterproof removal pads- available at most drugstores

If you have ever worn waterproof make up, you know it can be a B**** to remove.  Andrea’s Eye’s for waterproof make up, will gently remove any products, even the most difficult.  They’re cost-effective and work.  It’s important when you wear waterproof products… you have the proper remover.  Most of them contain a Vinyl or Silicone base and don’t come off with just soap and water. You need the right oil to break them down.  You never want to try to scrub to them off, your skin certainly wont be happy!

Also, try not to wear waterproof all the time.  It keeps the skin from breathing and with continued use can clog your pores, but for a day at the beach or out on the water, it’s always your best bet!

So yes, you have options and no matter what the temperature may be, you’ll look great day or night when you incorporate any of these long-lasting durable product tips into your summer make up routine. Play, have fun, try new things you may even come up with something unique!

Of course there is always the option of a permanent cosmetic enhancement that will allow you to banish those pencils for good! Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions 604 639 3609 about any of our permanent procedure. We are always happy to share and remember your worth it!!

FX Workshop With – Bondo Prosthestics

We had the privilege to have Frank come to the IATSE 891 film union to demonstrate how he makes and apply Bondo Prosthetics. This product, technique and application has revolutionized the film industry. In a time where people want a fast and safe alternative to prosthetic make ups….this is truly the answer!
As a Fx artist of the film industry for 17 years, I have seen the evolution from foam to silicone, from gelatin to bondo transfers, and by far these are the best, easiest, safest and most durable prosthetics you can use today.
From the Passion of Christ http://www.tesney.net/Passion%20of%20Christ%20poster.jpg to Pirate’s of the Caribbean http://opinionsandexpressions.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/pirates-of-the-caribbean-2-posters.jpg?w=158&h=241
these prosthetics have been used tried and true. Frank has an extensive resume and works with all the best of Hollywood.
Frank has just partnered up with Frends Beauty Supplies in Hollywood, a leader in suppling the film industry http://frendsbeautysupply.com/SpecialFX.aspx for years. They offer pre-made pieces that are easy to use and apply.
We also have a company here in Vancouver!  WCT Productions can custom make pieces and they have many templates for you to choose from. http://www.globalproducer.com/ID15451.http://future-past.com/interview/images/billterezakis.gif
I have personally worked with this company for over 10 years and they are by far one of the best in the city!  Their work is flawless every time. Owner Bill Terezakis has worked in the industry for 20 years and he is a master at his craft. He has several awards to his credit such as the Leo, Emmy and several others.  Here’s a list of their many credits, several I have had the honor to work on with them… http://www.imdb.com/company/co0236607/
http://getentertainmental.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/tinman_large.jpg?w=135&h=176
Either way you choose you are bound to find something professional, creative with superior quality. I personally look forward to the future of prosthetic makeup and the many advances  in the years to come.
Artists and cast alike want a safer alternative to the hazardous chemicals we are use to using. It was one of the reasons that made me think about an alternative to the film industry with opening the BeautyInk Gallery. After a visit to the doctor, I sadly found out I will not be able to have a child of my own, thanx to all those hazardous chemicals that have damages my organs. If your an Fx Artist and you suffer from asthma, fatigue, infertility or liver damage….you can than our craft for that!
The next time you are thinking of prosthetics, certainly consider the bondo transfers as a safe alternative to your FX needs. They are safe, easy, and simple to make, no need for ovens, hours of cooking time or additional re touching on set. They are water resistant, something you can pre-colour as well as time saver.
For more info please feel free it give us a call 604 639 3609…we are happy to share!

The Results

Kate was really happy with the results. She felt the application didn’t even look like a tattoo, and that it looked very natural.

A month later we checked in with Kate again and she couldn’t say enough good things about her permanent pigment.

We’re happy to report that permanent make-up gets the A&K Stamp of Approval. (But remember to do your homework!)

Photos in this article are used courtesy of our brave volunteer Kate.

We look forward to speaking with you!

If you have any question regarding this or other procedures the Gallery offers, please call 604 639 3609

Shocked and Awww!!! Beauty on the other side….

Shauna was sent this documentary created by her friend Maxie’s Daughter about the Beauty Industry in Jamaica.  After watching it, she was amazed it exists and could only think about the lack of hygiene in such an environment.  But I guess to those that live there…it’s not an issue or a concern. Give it a watch and tell us what you think?

With the awareness of safety in our country, it is amazing what some women will do in the name of Beauty!!!

A More Sustainable You!!

I bet you have never thought of permanent cosmetics as environmentally friendly product?

Well think again….!  With the hundreds of tubes of  lipstick, eye liner and lip pencil you will go through in your lifetime, it will all add up.  Not to mention the thousands of pounds of wasteful packaging they come in, going into our land fills and all the harmful chemicals you will have ingested every day.

Permanent cosmetics are created from plant and mineral based organic products. No harmful chemicals are added that will hurt you over time and no more fuss with packaging or all the hassle of  make up application each and every day.

Shauna recently went to a group discussion with the Vancouver Board of Change http://www.boardofchange.com/ and realized how sustainable our company really is.  It wasn’t just the fact that we save the environment with our service of permanent cosmetics, but also the fact that all our sterilizing products are bio-degradable and we have a recycling system in place.  When we created the Gallery we used recycled furniture that was her Omma and Oppa’s, we use recycled paper as well as recycle our ink cartridges as much as possible.

We also use a Santevia water filtration system http://www.santevia.com/wellness/santevia_new/generic.asp?id=16&changeProp=SantProducts&title=Gravity%20Water%20System…so no bottled water here!

On May 20th we invite you to join us at our first of many make up parties right here at the Gallery, celebrating the new line from ARBONNE  Cosmetics an environmentally conscious company.

http://www.arbonne.ca/index.asp?lang=eng

ARBONNE  makes vegan friendly, natural cosmetics that are good for your skin and wont harm the environment.

Shauna has used the products and is so excited about them,  would love to share them with you, so you too can see for yourself these amazing products!  RSVP is required 604 639 3609 or info@beautyink.ca

So the next time you go to the cosmetic counter….take a conscious look at what you are buying within and outside the box. The plastic it’s wrapped in,  the box it comes in, the cardboard, the containers and ask yourself….can this be reused?  Then look at the ingredients…it might shock you at what you have been putting on your skin!

The Infamous J-LO Glow.

Last evening we joined the talented and sweet Ladies from the Kitty Club for the latest J-Lo flick-”The Back-up Plan.”

http://www.theback-upplan.com/

http://tengossip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/back-up-plan-movie-poster-tight-shirt.jpg

Not only was it funny, sweet and entertaining, Jennifer still shows off her amazing signature glow.  We happen to know her secret!  Shauna worked with one of her make up artists a few years ago and learned the J-Lo secret glow. Jennifer uses YoungBlood Cosmetics. It’s a line of mineral make-up that comes in both loose (dewy look) and pressed powder(mat look). The loose powder is amazing and gives you that light reflective, radiant glow. You can layer it up for serious coverage and buff it in to increase the shine.  It’s great for the dewy look that will carry you through the summer season, giving you an SPF coverage of about 15.

http://img2.timeinc.net/instyle/images/2007/galleries/070507_jlo_400X400.jpg

Shauna has been using Youngblood faithfully now for years and introduces it to her clients as well as other film make-up artists in the city. Because it’s a mineral make up, it’s great for extremely sensitive skin or blemished complexions. The undertones are fabulous and the line caters to women of ethnicity. In Vancouver you can only purchase YoungBlood at the Absolute Spa in the Century Plaza or the Fairmont Hotel.http://www.getbetterlife.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/youngblood-cosmetics.jpg

When you come in for your custom make up lesson, Shauna will be happy to show this fabulous product and the many uses it has besides being a great power. http://www.ybskin.com/index.php

Custom lessons are $80 and will be the best money you have spent in along time. Not only will you learn what products are best for you,  but you will also learn your best colours, industry make up myths, how to correctly use make up brushes, their care, as well as where to invest your $$$ so you stop wasting it on products you never use. You too can know the industry insiders form one of Vancouver’s top award winning artists.

Enjoy the latest look and learn how to apply them to best suite your features, so you too can be on the cutting edge of this years make up season.

Learn the do’s and don’ts of this seasons hottest makeup trends:

Eyes:

-Extreme coloured gel liners: you can use them solid or blend them sheer with your finger for an all over look. Add powder on top to add extra staying power.
-Smudged under eye liner in blues or muted purple.

-Opal shimmer is back and can be used on the eyes or face to accent the high points ie: cheeks, nose, brow bone.
-Volume on the lashes natural look, use clear mascara.
-Thicker defined natural brows are in using a light undertone to create the definition.

Cheeks:

-Sun kissed, dewy and sheer. Heavy base and matt are out. Choose a bronzer with shimmer and no too orange tone.

Lips:

- Mat or pearl coral/ orange and muted purples are popular for spring day look
-Red is still the look for evening or day with a muted eye

Then on my way back to the gallery, I came across a great find. On 8th ave between Ontario & Manitoba, there is a warehouse with dramatically discounted designer cloths. For $100, I picked up a suit jacket with the matching tailored dress, 2 silk blouses, a pair or slacks,  a skirt plus 2 knit tops for summer. I was blown away and the little women are in there sewing away, so all the stock is quite new. I will certainly be going back because the business cloths are great, plus they have my size 12….which is hard to find.

New and Exciting Indusrty Info – Clean Education

So after spending two full days with the industry leaders, I was thrilled to see and purchase new products that we will be using to enhance our clients. One of the highlights was going the the infectious control class and knowing our gallery’s contamination procedures are first rate. Not only are we using  top of the line products by the leading industry company ACCEL, but it was great to also to find out that these products are environmentally friendly as well!

I personally will however be hard pressed to get a mani/pedicure in the future at any establishment that uses jet tubs. Not only are they hard to access for sterilizing,  but most places don’t do the proper cleaning of the machines and now I know why I got the nail fungus I have just recently recovered from. The truest and safest method for pedicure is a stainless steel bowl that is sterilized between each client! Plastic is pores and bacteria, without being scrubbed, cleaned and sterilized is a perfect breading ground.  So do think twice and make certain your esthetician is using ACCEL to throughly sterilize the equipment they use on you. Bleach and alcohol just don’t cut it!

The Student Competition is always amazing, this year three of my prior students from VFS competed and I was so proud! It’s always great when people you mentor get recognized for their fabulous work!

I was also loved all the new brushes we purchased this year, more are coming out with the sable nylon mix which gives better control and application. At the Mac workshop I learned new techniques for product usage and application that I will be happy to share with our clients. At the Jacques-Lee Pelletier workshop I learned new ways to counter-shade, conceal and use colour as a shader.  Colour is the best way this season the celebrate your look.  I will be looking forward to sharing some of  these tips with you on my upcoming BTV segment  April 27th channel 13 from 6am-9am.
